Christmas: A Time of Joy or Stress?

Why does Christmas have to be so stressful? This time of the year is supposed to be a time where you spend with family and friends and be thankful for all of the blessings that have been bestowed upon you. Instead it is a mad rush buying presents, wrapping them, sending out cards, attending events, making a lot of food, and the stress can eat you alive. It's funny because next Sunday I have two family events to attend which means we'll be at one and then have to leave before it's over to get in the car and drive another 40 minutes to attend the next one. By the time I get home that night I'll be dead tired.

I'm a subcontractor at work which means I don't have one work Christmas party, but three! It sounds nice, but currently it feels like a chore.

The Christmas tree is up, thankfully! I still haven't had the time to post pictures. I will as soon as I can.

I feel that writing in this blog for now will be sketchy at best. I'm going to write as much as I can because it has been so good for me and I enjoy it a lot.

I am finally finished with this quarter at school. I ended up with a 98 on my research paper and a 96 for my research and writing class final grade along with a 98 in my UNIX class. Yay! My 4.0 GPA wasn't compromised! :)

I'm going to try and finish my Christmas cards tonight. I certainly hope and pray that I do. I also hope and pray that this time of year is joyful for you and not stressful. It makes you want the season to hurry up and be over, which is really sad and totally against what Christmas is supposed to be about.

This Christmas has not been stressful for me. I bought the presents earlier than in years past so there is no mad rush for me.

Are you working in the IT industry? The UNIX class implies it.

I hope you get your wishes!

You're a great writer! You should keep at it. It's your gift.

I hope you get to go through the Christmas season without too much stress. But yes, I know what you mean. I have about 50 people on my list every year so that sometimes sucks the joy out of the season.

I've been turning down a few parties I don't really care about this year though. Just so I won't get too frazzled.

Glad you finally got the tree decorated. I even took my pathetic 40cm tree out of its bag as well. I crumbled under the pressure of a friend who pouted when I told her I wasn't going to bother with a tree. She argued with me - seeing as they're coming over Christmas night - until I folded. We have the same argument every year and each time she wins!!

I still haven't finished Christmas shopping. I'm one of those who really doesn't like Christmas and waits until it's all over. It hasn't meant anything to me in years.

But, aside from my apathy in regards to Christmas, I hope you have a lovely one!

Best Wishes
Zathyn

Hello, I just came across your blog via BlogRush (which I just installed on my blog) and am enjoying reading about your life.

As for Christmas being stressful (which it so often IS!) I believe that there are several reasons why:

1) The holiday season coincides with the Winter Solstice, which is a time of going inward. It's naturally a seasonal cycle of less energy. No wonder many animals hibernate this time of year!

2) I think that many people feel pressured to exchange gifts and attend get-togethers, when really what they want to do is to climb into bed with a good book, or sit quietly and reflect on the year just past.

Best of luck coping with this holiday season! It is my hope that somehow, you are able to grab a few quiet moments for yourself during this hectic time.
