Need Advice Please

As stated in a previous post, I am going to start talking about one thing that is bothering me to death which is weight. I want to just get it out on the table and talk about it and then do something about it. I know I will be posting how I'm doing in losing weight at times and I don't want this to turn into a weight blog.

As we all know it's easier to have just one blog. I really don't want another one because I want to keep all of my thoughts and feelings in one place, but I don't want to bore my readers either.

So, should I start another blog just for my weight or would you mind if I blog about it here?

Thanks ya'll!

Blog it here. It is part of what you are doing - so, here it should be.

That's not an easy decision to make ...

You're right to be concerned that blogging about a topic could turn your blog into a topical blog, which attract an entirely different audience. They really are two different things ... but on the other hand, if losing weight is something that's going to be a part of your life, it's probably something that you'll want to write about.

A lot depends on how you handle it:

If you write entries exclusively on the subject - especially if you're posting articles from other sources - you're probably going to bore the hell out of anyone who's not interested in the subject. Meanwhile, the "personal experience" articles will bore anyone who is interested in the subject, so you may lose both audiences.

If it's something that you mention once in a while, and you write about your experiences as part of your life, with an occasional entry focused entirely on the subject, you'll probably stay in the realm of a "personal" blog and readers who are not already interested in the topic will be forgiving, though they may scroll past the "boring" stuff.

It occurs to me that a personal blog, like a person, can and should reflect their individual interests - and a good reader, like a good friend, will be patient, knowing that you'll be patient and forgiving with them when they feel like rattling on about one of their favorite subjects, about which you couldn't care less.

It's hard to say where a person crosses the line - there are people I avoid (in real life) because they're constantly harping on the same thing, others whom I hang around but "tune out" when they go off on a tare, and still others who can actually get me to take interest in a topic I didn't care about before because of their enthusiasm and the way they talk about the subject.

Anyway ... the reader's digest version is that it depends on how you're going to approach the subject, and how often. Maybe you won't be able to assess this until you've written about it for a while?

Yeah, I say why not. My blog is mostly about assault, trauma, depression etc. But I also talk about spiritual things because its very close to my heart.

And any other topics I want to talk about, I usually tie them back in to those topics in some way.

Also, weight is an issue for depression - very much related. It can be really tough losing weight whilst suffering depression, so this is a good place to record how you're going.

I don't want to tell you how to run your own blog, but I will tell you how I run mine.

I blog about whatever I want to blog about whenever the muse calls.
The only rule is, there are no rules.

Blog away :-)

I think that bloggin about your weight loss here is okay providing that you talk about it only once in a while.

You always have an interesting array of topics you Blog about, I doubt you'd turn this one into a Blog bogged down with weight issues. It's part of your life, but not all of your life - therefore my opinion is to share it here.

*hugs*

Thank you everyone for your advice. I read all of your comments, thought about what everyone said and decided to talk about it here.

I promise it won't turn into a weight blog.

:)

It's YOUR blog - and people have no right to moan about what you post. If they don't like it, all they have to do is not comment and keep an eye out for your other types of posts.

And if anyone has a go, tell them to write their own blog which YOU can criticise, too!

Good luck. Eat sensibly. Don't go mad!

wouldn't mind at all. if you blog about it on another blog without really wanting to, you might get stressed about maintaining more than you really want to then stop doing so altogether.

my take on it anyway. :D

and it's not like you'll be talking about it every single post. :)

Annie - Thanks for your kind words AND words of wisdom! I used to be bulimic/anorexic and it's easy for me to go mad about it. I do have to watch it.

I have decided to blog about it here. My blog won't turn into a weight blog, but I will talk about how I feel.

Daisy - I did worry about maintaining two blogs. Not really crazy about the thought of that!
